The port, which is the economic hub of the downtown core, has been revitalized into a visual masterpiece. With over $300 million invested in upgrades and innovation, it has been transformed into one of the great waterfronts of the world. Check first with a local or with a frequent Bahamas visitor (like a travel advisor) to determine which stall is the best for the day.

My favorite is Twin Brothers for conch fritters and fried plantains. This popular zoo is home to flamingos, iguanas, exotic birds, and more. Don’t miss Nassau’s famous Straw Market for a dose of souvenirs and local culture. You’ll find handmade straw goods, jewelry, clothing, and other Bahamian trinkets here. From my first-hand experiences, I can say that while Nassau has some downfalls, it is still possible to enjoy the port, if you know what to do. Nassau is the largest seaport in the Bahamas and the country’s capital.

The reason is that many of the most attractive things to do involve getting out of the port area and often to more hidden away spots that otherwise aren’t easily accessible for tourists. An excursion makes it simple to leave the ship, have fun you couldn’t do otherwise, and then get back to the ship. Leave the port and you’ll find a number of vendors offering scooters or golf carts for rent. To be honest, we can’t share many details about this option as riding through an unfamiliar place in traffic never appealed to us.

Because downtown Nassau is just a 15-minute walk from the port of Nassau, you’ll have plenty of options for retail therapy. The famous Nassau Straw Market is ideal for haggling for conch jewelry and hand-woven straw bags. Or head to the Bahamas Craft Centre for Bahamian fabrics, glassworks, art, and other handmade goods. Break out your beach towel for an afternoon of basking in the sun at Cable Beach, which is famous for its crystal clear waters and luxury resorts.

Arawak Cay (Touristy Fish Fry)

Pearl Island ensures your visit is comfortable with comprehensive amenities, including clean facilities and beachside bars. It’s an ideal shore excursion for experiencing the beauty of the Bahamas efficiently and luxuriously, making the most of your limited time in Nassau. After feeding the pigs and swimming with them, you can grab a drink and some snacks, chill out in a hammock, or take a dip in the warm Caribbean waters.

Long Beach, CA

When shopping at Festival Place, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings as it can get very busy and hectic. Vendors will approach you, and it will not be a relaxing shopping experience. Whether you want to grab a quick drink or if you’re stopping in before heading back to your cruise, Pirate Republic Brewing Co. is worth checking out.

When it comes to cruise ports, Nassau, Bahamas, is known for having some great snorkeling sports. You can book a snorkeling tour through the cruise line or a private vendor. Breezes Resort & Spa is an all-inclusive that costs $125 for the day.

Visit Fort Montagu

Port Nassau (locode BSNAS) is on New Providence Island's northeastern coast. The city has population around 275,000 and total area approx 80 mi2 (207 km2). Bay Street is known as Nassau’s retail district, so there will be many local businesses there if you are interested in shopping. On Bay Street, you will find jewelers, clothing stores, gift shops, and more.

To further her expertise in the industry, Chantelle has taken numerous courses to become a specialist in various destinations, including the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, and Alaska. Through her blog and advising business, Chantelle shares her love for travel and helps others plan their dream vacations. Some parts are reserved for resorts, but plenty of public space also exists. Green Parrot and Sharkeez are both near the port and offer food and drinks in a fun environment.

Also, a living historical exhibit is held twice a week, showcasing 18th-century Nassau life. Junkanno Beach is public and at short walking distance from the cruise port. There are cheap drinks and clean restrooms, as well as free Wi-Fi. The onboard guide will offer all sorts of bargains, coupons and shopping deals but it is advisable to also look at many other shops that are not promoted by the cruise line. In fact, there more shops in Nassau than the ones recommended where the cruise traveler can get great deals. Bay Street - the main street in downtown Nassau - is known as a shopping paradise.

Cloisters and Versailles Gardens on Paradise Island offer peace and relaxation on a cruise day in Nassau Port. Just a short taxi ride from the terminal, these beautiful gardens provide a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the cruise ship crowds. The Medieval ruins feature lush landscapes, tropical flowers, white marble cloisters, and terraced gardens.

You’ll recognize it by the concrete tower that guards the entrance to the hidden lagoon and the incredible turquoise water surrounding the island. Within and outside the cruise terminal, you will find vendors selling ferry tickets to Paradise Island where the famous Atlantis resort is located. The Paradise Island ferry terminal is located under the two bridges connecting Nassau and Paradise Island, and from there you can walk to Atlantis Resort. Only a 10-minute walk from the cruise dock, you’ll come across a 19th-century residence of the British Governor-General housed in a well-preserved pink and white colonial mansion.

Nassau has invested over $300 million into upgrading the old terminal into one of the greatest waterfronts in the Caribbean. The brand-new Arrival’s Terminal Building features an innovative design and is still under construction. While this question is going to depend on the time of year, it’s good to know that Nassau rarely sees temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Other conditions like clouds, fog, rain, or even wind are going to vary.

These resorts have amenities such as all-inclusive food and drinks, private beaches, pools, and excellent customer service. The downtown area of Nassau is perfect for exploring the city’s history and culture. You’ll find cafes, restaurants, shops, art galleries, monuments, and other attractions here. Cabbage Beach is a public beach located on Paradise Island, home to the Atlantis Resort. Cabbage Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Nassau and offers plenty of amenities such as food, drinks, showers, and changing rooms. Following a two-year hiatus in cruise ship travel, in 2022 Nassau is expected to host over 1100 ships.

The capital of the country, Nassau has long been known as a destination for sun-seeking tourists, a historical hotspot, and a prominent player in many James Bond movies. You can book one of the food and cultural tours, or explore on your own. Some of the must-see places are the Bahamas Rum Cake Factory, Graycliff Chocolate Factory and John Watling’s Distillery. Goulding Cay Reef is another fascinating reef located at the western end of New Providence that is said to be one of the best shallow-water snorkeling sites in the world. It attracts both experienced snorkelers and beginners and is suitable for people of all ages.

Both packages can also be upgraded to include water sports like kayaking, snorkeling tours, and water bikes. What was once a private estate is now home to one of the world’s largest private collections of palms, and it’s even equipped with trails and boardwalks for visitors to travel on. Events can even be hosted here, like weddings or birthday parties, and you can even find a gift shop to visit. Grabbing a taxi is the easiest way to get to the Nassau Cruise Port. Walk outside the international and domestic terminals to find an endless supply of taxis. The ride should take around 20 to 30 minutes to the Nassau Bahamas cruise port.
